Flanked by Devon red sandstone cliffs, the beach of clean large pebbles and cobbles, leads down to clear water with safe bathing. The Parade, in line with the top of the beach, makes a delightful promenade interspersed with bench seats and there are beach side cafes and beach huts adding further to the charm and character of this quiet resort.
Just a short walk from the seafront, the town has a unique selection of tea rooms, quality restaurants and shops, most of which are still independently owned, catering for all everyday needs as well as special interest shops which are a delight to browse. The thatched Fairlynch museum with its Smugglers cellar has displays of local history and other exhibits, and the Public Hall hosts various bazaars, concerts and other entertainment.
Activities to be enjoyed include fishing from the beach or boat, with fly fishing in the River Otter, bowls, tennis, croquet, golf and cricket. Coastal and riverside walks are easily accessible from the town and hold special interest for bird watchers.
